RAND RAPIDS, Mich., March 28, 2012—EPS Security (EPS), a national top-30 residential and business security provider, has acquired Grand Rapids-based Eagle Security (Eagle), located at 1029 28th Street SE. Terms of the transaction have not been disclosed.
EPS is in the process of converting monitoring of Eagle’s 1,100 commercial and residential accounts to its award-winning Central Station monitoring facility, an effort that is expected to be complete by mid-April. The acquisition includes business operations only; it does not include Eagle Security’s store front property. EPS plans to retain some of Eagle’s current employees.
EPS is coming off its most successful year (2011) in the company’s 56-year history. It currently monitors nearly 17,000 commercial and residential customers, making it the largest security company in West Michigan. The acquisition of Eagle Security will bring EPS’ total customer count to nearly 18,000.
“Our growth during the past five years is remarkable, and this acquisition serves to poise us for additional growth in 2012 and beyond,” said Jim Zweedyk, vice president of EPS. “In addition, we’re able to better optimize our Central Station capacity while providing our new customers with a level of service that we know they’ll be pleased with.”
Eagle Security has operated from its location on 28th Street (between Eastern and Kalamazoo Avenues) for more than 30 years. West Michigan residents may be most familiar with the brand as the company with the “upside down” sign that greeted onlookers since 1992. Eagle’s former owners plan to use the building to house a new publishing company called Alistair Rapids Publishing.
“We actually began as a publishing company before getting into the security industry,” said Mike Carrier, a published writer with a new novel on the way. “We had a successful run in the security industry, but we recognize that EPS Security is better suited to serve our customers from their Central Station at this point. EPS has been incredible to work with, and I’m certain our customers are in the right hands.”
Eagle distributed a letter to its customers to make them aware of the transition last week.
