Security is a critical aspect of any Sheriff’s office operation. Maintaining a close eye on jailing systems, courthouse operations, and other judicial facilities is paramount to public safety. Access control systems provide command over traffic within correctional facilities, while a crystal clear IP network video surveillance system allows authorized personnel to view all facilities at a moments notice. Moreover, each system is supervised from a centralized location with state-of-the-art software and technology. These benefits allow for a smoothly run operation and provide resources to react in the event of a security related situation.

Van Buren County Sheriff’s Department Lieutenant Chad Hunt understands the responsibility of building well rounded security for the county judicial facilities. Over the course of three years, Lt. Hunt has diligently worked with EPS to maintain a high level of security. The partnership with EPS has worked to ensure consistent performance and operation. For instance, as the Van Buren County Courthouse preserves its history and classical look, the protection and safety of those within its walls is continually evolving. The most recent addition, an ExacqVision IP network video system with future plans to phase out the previous generation of analog cameras, is proving its worth.

“We had a disgruntled individual attempt to evade our officers outside of the facility” the Lieutenant explained, “I was able to relay directions to them from our monitors precisely where the person was trying to hide—under a specific car in the parking lot—and whether or not the person may have been armed.”

Lt. Hunt also credits the growth of the system to the umbrella of services EPS has delivered for Van Buren County. Over the last three years, EPS has initiated dual administration of a DSX card access system, the introduction of a state-of-the-art intrusion system, semi-annual fire alarm testing and, most recently, the video surveillance upgrades in 2015. These security systems are then supported and maintained by an EPS Security service agreement. If a camera goes dark or a door’s card reader begins to malfunction, EPS responds with the areas largest fleet of service vehicles to alleviate any concern as soon as possible.Lt. Hunt credits the centralized system to improved mobility and operations within the courthouse and correctional facilities.

In cooperation with Van Buren County Commissioners & Sheriff Dale Gribler, Lt. Hunt and EPS Security have been able to build an effective and resourceful security system for the Van Buren County Courthouse, the Sheriff’s office, its correctional facilities and other associated county buildings. The installed systems are scalable, secure and utilize industry leading technologies. EPS has engineered an ideal system for a county that protects their community by taking the safety and security of its public facilities seriously.
