What is Access Control?

As the name implies, Access Control is a security technology that allows its manager to control who has access to certain locations and when they have access to them. Common applications include areas as large as campuses, buildings, and factories or as small as sections of buildings, office spaces, and storage rooms.

Types of Access Control we offer

Card Reader Systems

Each access solution is unique, which is why we offer a variety of card reader systems. These include everything from HID proximity key cards to ID badges to key fobs. Each solution tailored to our customers’ needs.

Intercom Systems

We offer a range of systems that include any combination of voice, video, and remote lock and release. These are beneficial for facilities where access needs to be requested, verified and approved or denied.

OTHER TYPES OF ACCESS CONTROL

Video Surveillance Integration

Our access control solutions are not just stand-alone systems. They can be integrated with our video surveillance systems for added levels of security.

Biometric Scanners

Does your facility have extremely restricted areas that require a higher level of security than is provided with a traditional Access Control solution? We offer robust solutions that include fingerprint and retinal scanners.

Why is Access Control important?

While an old-fashioned lock and key might have worked well enough years ago, it’s definitely not the most effective or efficient way to secure a building today. With an Access Control System you can:

Provide a Safer Working Environment

With access being limited, you can worry less about suspicious individuals entering your building.

Reduce Theft

Thieves will have a harder time getting to valuable equipment with access being limited to certain people at certain times.

Eliminate Key Challenges

With Access Control, you no longer need to copy keys and change locks.

Provide Remote Access to Locations

Give maintenance workers access without being physically present.

Monitoring Activity

Report and log when employees arrive/leave the facility.

How does Access Control work?

Access Control might sound confusing, but it is relatively simple. Identify a location where access needs to be limited or restricted. Determine who should have access to said location. Decide when they should have access—and then you’re done. Below, we’ve outlined a simple example of what access control looks like in a practical sense.

You are the facility manager for a high school and have five main types of people entering and leaving your building: students, teachers, administrative staff, janitorial staff, and visitors. You decide to install a card reader Access Control System in your building, meaning that to enter certain areas of the building an individual will need to scan an individually programmed key card.

Levels of Access

Students

Students do not need special access to the building, or any of its rooms, so you don’t give them key cards. Instead, you leave the outer doors of the building unlocked from 7:00-8:00 AM and 3:00-5:00 PM (when they arrive and leave school).

Teachers

Because some teachers work late and lead after-school activities, they need access to the building and their classrooms around the clock. You grant them this access from 5:00 AM to 8:00 PM.

Administrative Staff

Just like the teachers, some administrative staff members work late or have other commitments on campus after school hours. As such, they need access to the building and their offices from 5:00 AM to 8:00 PM.

Janitorial

Responsible for cleaning the entire building, the janitorial staff needs access to all areas of the building every hour of the day.

Visitors

Daily visitors such as parents, guardians, education officials, and community members don’t need permanent access, but will need to get around your facility. Guest key cards can be created for these persons with limited access and are deactivated after a set time.
