Originally built as part of the Story & Clark Piano Company, the nearly 100 year old facility at 101 Columbus Avenue was built upon massive free standing wooden posts and beams. By the 1980’s, the 120,000 sq. ft. space was open, yet unoccupied. Searching for a place to call home, the growing Covenant Life Church found an opportunity. Leaning on the resourcefulness of its dedicated membership, sections and additions were slowly added throughout the enormous space to accompany the needs of the CLC.

Through years of development and volunteer support the facility has maintained its simplistic and classic look while becoming a functional house of worship for the approximately eight hundred member families. After owning the building outright for two decades, the CLC has begun to expand. The endeavor, which is currently in progress, will expand the CLC facilities by 9,000 sq. ft. and add to the growing Children’s Ministry. It’s a move Director of Operations Tom Neusiis explained as, “Positioning for future growth” while also noting, “Our Children’s Ministry has grown to more than 200 kids every Sunday.”

The Children’s Ministry and its member programs have become a focal point for the church, looking to foster a warm and fruitful experience for the many participating youth. In fact, an additional program “Special Treasures” was created two years ago to provide 1-on-1 mentorship for children with special needs. With such an important focus, the leadership of the Covenant Life Church recognized the critical need to maintain a high level of security and promote the utmost safety for its member families.

In partnership with EPS Security, a dedicated fire and intrusion alarm system paired with a comprehensive access control solution was developed for the burgeoning needs of the facility. Previously, existing doors were keyed and entrusted to members as needed. Doors were often left open, and security risks, especially for the Children’s Ministry, were enough for CLC to move toward a more stable and flexible card access system. Additionally, activity reports have been established for record-keeping, a task which was, at one time, nearly impossible. Areas of the Children’s Ministry are also secured during small group sessions and only authorized individuals are permitted access to the rooms as scheduled
