Beware of fraudulent door-to-door solicitors

To many of our loyal customers, summer means warm weather, family trips and cookouts in the backyard. Activities that bring happiness and a joyful reprieve from our day-to-day responsibilities. It’s valuable time to be with family, friends and the ones we care for most. As such, the last thing you want to deal with are pushy sales people and predatory scam artists knocking at your door.

Moreover, burglars and other criminals have been known to disguise themselves as sales people to do their ‘research’ throughout unsuspecting neighborhoods. Unfortunately, these activities are most prevalent during the summer months. We compiled a few tips and valuable information to ensure your safety this summer and throughout the year.

Important Note

All EPS technicians have employee ID and any service required is scheduled with our customers ahead of any visit. If you believe someone may be impersonating an EPS employee or trying to convince you our service is defective or in disrepair, please contact our Customer Care department immediately and notify us of fraudulent activity.

Common Scams

1. Solicitor claims your EPS system is inactive, broken, or not being monitored.
This is one of the more common tricks. If your system ever becomes inactive or does not communicate to our EPS Monitoring Center, we will notify you immediately. You can always contact the EPS Monitoring Center to be sure: (616) 459-1282

2. Solicitor claims EPS Security is going out of business or that EPS was sold to the company they represent.
EPS Security has been serving Michigan residents for 60 years. We have over 200 employees and serve nearly 20,000 homes & businesses. If our business was ever to change hands or close doors, you would not be hearing about it from someone interrupting your dinner!

3. Solicitor claims they represent the manufacturer of the equipment used in your system.
The manufacturer of our security systems will never send representatives to your home on any occasion for any reason. EPS technicians are certified to work on any system we install.

4. Solicitor claims EPS Security sent them to your home to perform an inspection of your system or to execute a replacement.
We are a service company at the core. If your system does need repair or service, it will be scheduled ahead of time. The EPS Security technician on site will be able to present identification as well as verify the appointment as required.
