Fire
WHO: Barbara's beach-side dream home
WHERE: Saugatuck, Michigan
THE SCENARIO: It was a warm summer night in July, and Barbara and her husband John were several hours into a deep sleep. The prior week had been busy with Fourth of July festivities – beach picnics, barbeques and family fun topped the agenda for most of the week. To top it off, the couple celebrated Barbara's birthday earlier that night with a nice dinner downtown with their children and grandchildren.
Little did Barbara's family know, but a group of teenagers had decided to set up a late-night campsite on the beach adjacent to her neighbor's house. And being that it was the Fourth of July, the group of teens had an armload of fireworks and enough alcohol to fuel some very poor decisions.
THE RESULT: It was 2 a.m. when Barbara was awoken from her deep slumber by the sound of her EPS alarm. The pine trees that separate her home from her neighbor were already engulfed in flames, and the roof of her home was beginning to catch fire.
Thankfully, she and her husband had enough time to exit the house because they had been awaked by the alarm. EPS had contacted the fire department, and by the time Barbara and her husband were outdoors the fire trucks were arriving on the scene. No one was hurt in the blaze that eventually traveled three-quarters of a mile down the beach and caused more than $3 million in damages to homes in its path.
Barbara is certain that her EPS fire alarm system saved her and John's lives, and there is no doubt that she'll continue to have EPS provide a safe environment.
THE MISSION: Create a safe environment that alerts home owners of potential life-threatening events.
THE EPS SOLUTION: Barbara's home, and the two homes adjacent, all had EPS fire detection systems that integrated with their current burglary alarm system. A single panel controlled both systems, so setting alarms before bed was one seamless motion.
